Submissions

Disturb The Universe Magazine publishes up to three times weekly, typically Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The following guidelines are current as of 05 April 2024.

ALL OF THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES MUST BE MET, WHERE APPLICABLE. ANY MISSED GUIDELINE WILL RESULT IN REJECTION.

READING/PUBLISHING TIMELINES: While the goal is to read submitted work within 60 days, it can take longer. Once work is accepted, it can take up to 120 days for publication. This magazine publishes 8-13 pieces PER MONTH, and timing is wholly dependent on the queue. A polite inquiry after 60 days (for either submission or publication) is welcome.

01. Up to three poems, one short story (under 3000 words), or two pieces of flash fiction (under 500 words each) per submission.

02. All writing MUST have a title. I don't publish author pics, however, if you have an image or artwork to complement your submission(s), you may include it. You must either own the copyright or ensure it is royalty-free.

03. If submitting work as an image, do not include the name of the publication on the image.

04. All text must be submitted in a readable font, preferably 12-point Times New Roman. Stories must be single-spaced, with a blank line between paragraphs.

05. All poetry and story submissions must be in a .doc or .docx file ONLY. Note that nontraditional formatting is a challenge for this space.

06. Your name MUST be in the file name. This means the name of your file must have your name in it. I will reject your work, unread, if this guideline is not met.

07. Include a short third-person bio in the body of your email every time you submit work, even if it is the same as last time. You are welcome to include a URL or form of contact. Keep your bio under 50-65 words, not including URL or form of contact. I reserve the right to edit bios down to 65 words or less.

08. No simultaneous submissions.

09. No previously published work.

10. If your work is accepted, wait 14 days after ALL pieces have been published before submitting more work. If your entire submission is rejected, please wait 14 days before submitting more work.

11. Withdrawing submissions: If you haven’t received an acceptance or rejection, simply reply to your email and withdraw your piece(s). If you have received an acceptance, but the piece has not been published, send an email, however, be aware that withdrawing accepted work means not being able to submit work to this publication for 6 months.

12. Email your submission to disturbtheuniversemagazine (at) gmail (dot) com with the subject line: Magazine Submission From (your name). No cover letter is needed, though it is kind to address your submitted work to the editor.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please have your work proofed and print-ready when submitting. I may fix a typo here and there; however, I have little time and no interest in editing your work.
